ART 1.0 for Scream! 4.2

July 2004

ART, Güralp Systems' strong motion analysis and research tool, is a Windows program which can process and analyze data recorded from Güralp Systems' CMG 5-series strong motion accelerometers, and export time histories in a number of currently-used strong-motion record formats.

ART and Scream! work closely together. You can import strong-motion records directly into ART simply by SHIFT-selecting the appropriate portion of the record in Scream! which will automatically start ART on your selection. If you prefer, Güralp Compressed Format (GCF) can also be read in from pre-recorded files and analyzed.

ART supports a wide range of functions useful for engineering seismologists and earthquake engineers:

  • plotting uncorrected acceleration, velocity and displacement;
  • correction of recorded time-history for instrument response;
  • filtering of acceleration time-history using user-defined filters;
  • plotting corrected acceleration, velocity and displacement;
  • calculation and plotting of Fourier amplitude spectra of time-history and of pre-event portion of record;
  • calculation and plotting of Arias intensity;
  • calculation and plotting of energy density;
  • calculation and plotting, both on linear and tripartite graphs, response spectra;
  • calculation of response spectrum intensity using user-defined limits;
  • calculation of acceleration spectrum intensity using user-defined limits;
  • calculation of RMS acceleration.;
  • calculation of cumulative absolute velocity;
  • calculation of absolute and relative bracketed, significant and uniform strong-motion durations using user-defined limits;
  • Plotting particle motions both in 2 and 3 dimensions;
  • Exporting the uncorrected, corrected and response spectra in CSMIP (as used by the California Strong-Motion Instrumentation Program), ISESD (as used by the Internet Site for European Strong-Motion Data), K-Net, PEER, and SMC (as used by the US Geological Survey) formats.

ART is included in the standard package for Scream! 4.2.2 and later.
