The Güralp Systems test vault

Güralp Systems operate a dedicated seismic vault near the village of Wolverton, about 6 km from the main factory in Aldermaston.

The interior of the vault.

Inside the vault, four concrete piers and a borehole provide stable surfaces for the instruments. A multiply-redundant GPS network keeps all the instruments in the vault synchronized to real time.

Sensors under test.

All new CMG-3T, CMG-3ESP and CMG-3ESP Compact instruments are assessed at the vault as part of our standard quality control procedure.

The borehole.

Also at the vault, a cased borehole 50 m deep is permanently equipped with a CMG-3TB triaxial instrument for monitoring local noise levels and detecting events.

Güralp Systems' extremely low power (less than 25 Watt) VSAT technology links the vault to the factory.

This simple, low cost solution removes the requirement for expensive hubs to be located at either end of the link. Identical stations at Wolverton and Aldermaston transmit and receive data at rates up to 8 Mbps.

The equipment is specially chosen for its robust design and its ability to connect directly to Güralp Systems digitizers without any additional processing modules or computers required, giving a lower cost, simpler solution than most other options.
