CMG-6TDs monitor Alaskan volcanoes
Two new telemetered broadband seismic networks based on CMG-6TD medium motion sensors have been installed this month on the Alaska Peninsula and the Aleutian Islands, as part of a programme of volcano monitoring by the Alaska Volcano Observatory.
The network installed on Akutan Island uses Guralp Systems 6TD instruments feeding broadband data via Intuicom radio telemetry equipment to a PC at Dutch Harbor running Scream!, a setup which has produced reliable continuous data output for the 3 weeks since installation.
A second station is in the final stages of on-site testing on Katmai on the Alaska Peninsula, also using 6TD sensors. This installation is expected to come onstream in August.
