Chapter 4. The CMG-DM24S3EAM/OBS

The Flute-H/OBS instrument is designed to work with the CMG-DM24S3EAM/OBS acquisition unit. The CMG-DM24S3EAM/OBS is a flexible, linux-based data acquisition, data storage and protocol conversion system combined with a CMG-DM24 digitiser in a high-pressure, cylindrical package designed for ocean-bottom use.

The CMG-DM24S3EAM/OBS runs Güralp Systems' Platinum firmware. Operation of the unit is described in a separate document, MAN-EAM-0003, which is available for download from the GSL web site at www.guralp.com/documents/MAN-EAM-0003.pdf.

The digital output connector can be configured for Ethernet networking or RS422 communications by moving an internal 8P8C modular jack. Contact GSL technical support for details.

When in RS422 mode, the internal RS422 driver is connected to PortDO (Data Out) of the EAM and is normally configured to run in PPP (point-to-point protocol) mode. When in Ethernet mode, the output from eth0 is available at the external connector.
