Chapter 4. Data flush control

The CMG-3Ex also has the ability to flush data to an external IEE1394 (FireWire) disk. The GSL disk (model ASM-DCM-0001) is the recommended storage device to use. The CMG-3Ex has the ability to power the disc so no additional power connections are required. The sensor power consumption will significantly increase during this time so this should be taken into account when designing the power supply. This function is not available on analogue instruments.

4.1 Flush

To flush data using the lid controls, first connect the disk to the sensor using the GSL IEE1394 (FireWire) cable (Part number CAS-PEP-0024). While the disc is designed to be reasonably rugged, it is vulnerable to damage when it is powered, so make sure that the disk is positioned on a safe surface where it can not be knocked over.

To initiate the flush, hold down the flush button then press the enable button for approximately ten seconds. The flush LED should now flash to indicate that the transfer is in progress. When the flush is complete, the LED will stop flashing. If the LED remains continuously on, an error has occurred during the flush. Check your connections and then initiate another flush. This may result in a good transfer of data; if not, it is necessary to use the terminal interface to discover the cause of the problem.

Flushing data using the lid controls is identical to the terminal 'flush' command and transfers from flash to the disk all data that have been recorded since the previous transfer.
