Chapter 2. Introduction

The State-of-Health (SoH) processor, ASE-ESP-0004, on a CMG-3 instrument is responsible for managing the operation of the locking and centring motors. Various different motors have been used over the lifetime of this product family. The algorithm used by the SoH processor is permanently hard-coded into a PIC, U6 ('A' in the photograph below). To support the many different types of motors encountered in shipped instruments, the parameters of the algorithm are stored separately in non-volatile RAM, U11, ('B' below).

This procedure describes how to reprogram the parameters. A custom cable, shown at 'C' below is required: this may be obtained from Güralp sales.

2.1 Equipment required

The following equipment is required:

• 2 mm hexagon wrench or Allen key.

• Flat-bladed screw-driver.

• Anti-static wristband.

• A Windows PC with HyperTerminal emulation software
