PRC-C24-0003 - Firmware reset for 6TD

Chapter 2. Introduction

The Güralp 6TD digital seismometer consists of a 6T analogue transducer, attached to the base-plate, and a CD24 digitiser, attached to the lid.

The firmware of the CD24 digitiser is customer-upgradeable and it is possible to load invalid firmware. It is also possible for firmware to become corrupt due to single-bit errors in the flash memory in which it is stored. In these cases, the CD24 can be configured to load an “emergency” version of the firmware from read-only memory. This has very few facilities but does allow the re-loading of valid firmware into the main firmware storage.

This document describes the required procedure.

This procedure also applies to Güralp ESPD, ESPCD and EX instruments with embedded CD24 digitisers. The illustrations show a 6TD but the steps involved are virtually identical.

Caution: Circuit boards include components which can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD ). Always work on a properly grounded dissipative surface and wear a suitable grounded wristband.
