Earthquakes in Eskdalemuir

An unusual swarm of over 20 small earthquakes has occurred near the Eskdalemuir Seismic Station in Scotland, which is operated by Guralp Systems for AWE Blacknest.

The earthquakes mainly occurred between 27 October and 7 November, although the latest and largest earthquake, of ML = 2.9, occurred on 28 November at a point just south of the station. As well as being recorded on the station’s Wilmore MK2 and Guralp CMG-3TD instruments, they could be felt by residents of the nearby towns of Lockerbie and Langholm.

The earthquakes could be seen passing across the entire array.
