Güralp employees go further for SeeAbility

Cheque Handover to SeeAbility

Guralp handover cheque to SeeAbility

In 2017, Güralp employees were proud to present funds they had raised to Fir Tree Lodge, one of two nearby residential homes, run by Charity SeeAbility that provides support for people living with multiple disabilities and sight loss. Following the presentation, our staff were so moved and inspired by the residents of Fir Tree House that it was agreed that fundraising efforts in the lead up to Christmas 2017 should again be for SeeAbility.

We are pleased to say that our generous employees exceeded their earlier record and raised an impressive £505, a figure that was further boosted by the company, to bring the total to £750.

Earlier this year, a small group of Güralp staff visited Heather House, the second of the local residential homes run by SeeAbility, to meet the residents and staff and to present the cheque. Heather House specialises in providing support for young adults with Batten disease.

Batten disease is a group of related disorders affecting cells in the brain that causes a progressing loss of physical and mental abilities. Usually beginning in childhood, the disease stops the child from progressing in their development and they gradually lose the ability to walk, talk, sit and respond to surroundings. This deterioration occurs over many years and often leads to blindness and seizures.*

The individuals cared for at Heather House are provided with all round support and the opportunity to participate in activities such as cookery, arts and crafts, music sessions and physiotherapy.

The funds raised by Güralp will be put towards payment for one of ten new full-travel ceiling-mounted hoists that allow residents to get in and out of their beds and wheelchairs more easily.

The cheque was presented following a short tour of the amazing facilities at the home. Receiving the cheque at Heather House are Tisha Rolfe and Ivy Button.
