Güralp is proud to encourage Earth Scientists at the University of Cambridge

MEDIA RELEASE

Last month Güralp was delighted to sponsor the poster prize giving at the annual conference of the Sedgwick Club, the Earth Sciences society at the University of Cambridge.

Each spring the club, which is the oldest student-run Geological society in the world, organises a conference and invites speakers from a variety of different Earth science backgrounds to talk about their work. The conference also provides the opportunity for 4th year Masters students to present posters summarising their research projects to students, staff and visitors, with the prizes for the top three posters sponsored by Güralp.

This years’ speakers included Professor Clive Oppenheimer, Professor of Volcanology at the University of Cambridge; Dr Philip Pogge von Strandmann, reader in Isotope Geochemistry at UCL Earth Sciences; Dr Jessica Hawthorne from the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Oxford; Dr Rowan Whittle of the British Antarctic Survey and; Dr Jane Macarthur from the Department of Earth and Environmental Science at the University of Manchester.

The top three poster prizes were awarded as follows:

1st: Sophie Baldwin, Magma Mixing and Monogenetic Volcanism at Slamet Volcano and Mount Loyang, Indonesia

2nd: Sean Herron, A tetrapod trackway from the Late Carboniferous on Bjørnøya, Svalbard
