Chapter 3. Procedure
If the NAM is boxed, unpack it, retaining all packaging and extras. Note the location of all packaging and contents. Photograph if necessary.
Note: The package will contain a loose model/serial number label. Take care not to mislay this.
Loosen by a few turns but do not remove 4 × screws holding the rack ears to the NAM's side panels:
This allows the top panel to be removed without it being scratched by the ears.
Remove and retain 8 × M3 screws securing the top panel to the NAM:
Slide the top panel a few millimetres backwards and then lift it off and away.
Caution - ESD: The circuit boards contained within the NAM include components which can be damaged by electrostatic discharge. Always work on a properly grounded dissipative surface and wear a suitable grounded wristband. Ground yourself by touching an earthed conductor before removing the disk from its packaging or touching any of the circuit boards.
Reach beneath the plastic rail to access the retaining clip on the SATA connector (pictured) and remove the connector from the SSD:
Remove and retain the 4 × M3 screws and the 4 × M3 nylock nuts attaching the SSD mounting plate to the base of the NAM.
Cut the cable ties securing the SSD's power lead to the plastic rail.
Cut the cable tie securing the red SATA cable to the tie clip on the disk.
Lift the SSD mounting plate away, disconnecting the power cable when it becomes accessible.
Note: Take note of the orientation of the SSD with respect to the mounting plate: it is not symmetrical and must be replaced in the correct orientation.
Remove and retain 4 × M3 screws securing the SSD to the SSD mounting plate and remove the old SSD.
Secure the new SSD to the SSD mounting plate using the 4 × M3 screws previously removed
Pass the SATA and power cables beneath the black plastic rail and reconnect them both to the SSD, taking care to push the connectors fully home.
Note: The cables must pass underneath the black plastic rail.
Secure the SSD mounting plate to the base of the NAM using the 4 × M3 screws and the 4 × M3 nylock nuts previously removed.
Attach the 20 mm × 20 mm self-adhesive cable-tie clip to the front left-hand corner of the SSD.
Secure the red SATA cable to the self-adhesive cable-tie clip with a cable-tie and trim the end of the cable-tie.
Secure the power cable to plastic rail with a cable-tie and trim the end of the cable-tie.
Replace the NAM's top panel and temporarily secure it with one × M3 screw in the centre back position on the top.
Power up NAM and check that it boots (i.e. that it shows information on its display other than the "PicoLED" banner).
Power down the NAM by holding the power switch for three seconds.
Secure the top panel with the remaining 7 × M3 screws.
Re-tighten the 4 × rack ear screws.
Repack as before.
This completes the procedure.
