
Chapter 3. Setting up the 54T
3.1 Introduction
The Güralp 54T is delivered in a transportation case. The packaging is specifically designed and should be re-used whenever you need to transport the instrument.
Note any damage to the packaging when you receive the equipment. When unpacking, ensure the following are present:
The instrument
The calibration sheet.
A nineteen-pin female bayonet connector, to allow users to make their own cables.
The instrument is preconfigured at the factory to settings requested by the customer at the time of ordering.
3.2 Handling notes
Do not connect the instrument to power sources except where instructed.
Do not ground any of the signal lines from the sensors.
3.3 Installation
Ensure the instrument is aligned along the North/South and East/West axes using the indicators marked on the top cover. If this is not possible, refer to the table in section 4.4.
Attach the instrument to any fixed structure using mounting bolts or clamps as required. See Appendix C on page 11 for fastener positions.
Referring to the instrument pin-outs in Appendix A on page 9:
Connect the instrument to a suitable analogue to digital converter.
Connect the instrument to a 7-14 V DC power supply.
The instrument is now operational and transmitting data.
Note: Güralp Systems can supply breakout boxes, cables, digitisers and software for data conversion and analysis.
