Chapter 5. Re-assembly
5.1 Reassembling a cylindrical system
Reassembly is, essentially, the reverse of the disassembly process.
Install the EAM chassis back into the casing, ensuring the lid-securing holes in the cylinder align with the threaded holes on the lid and that the alignment marks made earlier line up.
Attach the digital lid ribbon cable to the connectors at the other end of the EAM.
Install the digital lid onto the EAM case, ensuring that the alignment marks line up. If the marks have rubbed off or are not clear, align the mounting holes for the carrier assembly with those at the opposite end of the cylinder.
Loosely install all the lid securing screws, then tighten each in turn.
Install the cylinder into the carrier assembly and secure using the four thumb screws.
5.2 Reassembling a plastic-cased system
Reassembly is, essentially, the reverse of the disassembly process.
Connect any ribbon cables or other items disconnected during disassembly.
Install the main assembly into the case, taking care not to trap any cables or force any components past flanges and other protrusions. If any force is required to locate the assembly in the case, remove or adjust any obstructions before continuing.
Secure the main assembly using the appropriate fasteners.
Close the lid.
5.3 Reassembling an instrument with an integrated EAM
Reassembly is, essentially, the reverse of the disassembly process.
Remove the foil (used to prevent the ingress of dust or dirt).
Slowly and carefully lower the casing over the internal sensor components, taking extreme care not to trap or abrade any cables or components.
Align the casing with the marks made during disassembly. If the marks have rubbed off or not clear, align the seam in the magnetic lining with the cable run attached to the PCB support leg.
Loosely install all the screws securing the cylinder to the base, then tighten each one.
Whilst wearing an anti-static wrist-band, connect the ribbon cable between the lid and the lower electronics.
Install the instrument lid, using the alignment marks made during disassembly. If the marks have rubbed off or not clear, align the north end of the handle with the brass pointer on the base of the instrument.
Loosely install all the lid securing screws, then tighten each one.
Install the pressure relief screw in the lid and tighten using a flat bladed screwdriver.
